The Sunset Willow Beach Kayaking Tour traces a slow upstream arc along the Colorado River from Willow Beach, timing the paddle so you arrive at a sandy shore for a campfire meal as the canyon walls ignite in gold and crimson. As night settles, guides maintain a gentle float on the river’s 1–2 mph current, narrating the sky—constellations, moon phases and stargazing science—while you drift beneath an expansive, unlit desert sky.

Midway through the paddle the group lands on a scenic beach for a campfire meal—food, desserts and sides served around the fire before you continue the evening float beneath the stars.

THE SETTING

Historic River Passage and Gentle Current

The route takes you past the original Hoover Dam site while you paddle upstream and then drift with the river’s gentle 1–2 mph current—a relaxed, narrative-driven trip that blends local history with night-sky interpretation.

What the day feels like

What the Evening Feels Like

You launch from Willow Beach and settle into single or tandem kayaks provided by the operator, paddling upstream past the original Hoover Dam site toward a quiet sandbar. The guide times a beach landing for dinner and stories, then after sunset you re-enter the river, drifting with a slow current as guides point out stars, phases of the moon, and the science behind the night sky—an unhurried progression from sunset warmth to cool, starlit calm.
