The Biosphere Reserve Swabian Alb is located in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany. It was officially designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2009, covering approximately 85,000 hectares of the Swabian Jura mountain range. The area is characterized by its limestone plateaus, deep valleys, caves, and karst formations. This unique geological setting has given rise to a remarkable variety of habitats, supporting species such as rare orchids, birds of prey, and numerous endemic plants.
