About Jinshanling Great Wall Scenic Area

Jinshanling Great Wall Scenic Area offers a stunning, well-preserved stretch of the iconic Great Wall with dramatic mountainous scenery, attracting hikers and history enthusiasts alike.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Located approximately 125 kilometers northeast of Beijing in the mountainous area of Luanping County, Hebei Province, the Jinshanling Great Wall Scenic Area is one of the best-preserved and most spectacular sections of the Great Wall of China. Built during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), Jinshanling stretches about 10.5 kilometers and is famed for its combination of restored and original structures, including about 67 watchtowers and fortifications with intricate brickwork and stone steps. The Wall climbs rugged mountains reaching elevations up to 1,200 meters, offering visitors breathtaking panoramic views of surrounding valleys and peaks. The area’s ecology consists mainly of temperate mixed forests, shrubby mountain terrain, and diverse birdlife that adds to the natural appeal of hikes along the Wall. Outdoor enthusiasts visit Jinshanling primarily for hiking, photography, and cultural exploration. The trail from Jinshanling to Simatai, another preserved portion of the Wall, is an especially popular multi-hour route that traverses various terrain and architectural styles, blending restored sections with wild, unrestored parts. Visitors appreciate the balance of accessibility and wilderness, as Jinshanling is less crowded than more famous spots like Badaling. The scenic area's historical significance combined with the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape makes it a world-renowned destination for those seeking both cultural heritage and outdoor adventure.
