Kaas Plateau is located in the Western Ghats of India and is known for its stunning tapestry of wildflowers that blooms primarily in the late monsoon season, covering the plateau in a vibrant array of colors. This plateau, approximately 1200 meters above sea level, is recognized as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site due to its rich biodiversity, including over 850 species of flowering plants. The ecosystem here is fragile, supporting rare and endemic species such as the insect-eating Drosera indica and the vibrant Sonki flower. The plateau's unique basaltic soil and climatic conditions create an environment that is both delicate and unique. It's also home to varied fauna, including several species of butterflies and birds.
