Located approximately 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) off the coast near the city of Florianópolis in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, the Arvoredo Marine Biological Reserve encompasses a group of volcanic and granitic islands that harbor rich marine biodiversity. Established in 1990, the reserve covers an extensive marine territory aimed at conserving the fragile ecosystems that include coral reefs, kelp forests, rocky shores, and underwater grottoes.
