Port Honduras Marine Reserve is situated in the Toledo District of southern Belize, encompassing some 40,470 acres of coastal mangroves, seagrass beds, coral reefs, and numerous small islands forming a critical habitat for marine and bird life. Established in 2000, the reserve plays a significant role in conserving Belize’s Caribbean marine ecosystems. The reserve is characterized by extensive mangrove forests which serve as crucial nurseries for fish and other marine species, while its coral reefs harbor vibrant communities of colorful corals, sponges, and schools of tropical fish.
