Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Courthouse Falls is situated in the Pisgah National Forest, within the lush and mountainous region of western North Carolina. The falls cascade impressively amidst a dense forest, offering a cool retreat during the warmer months. The area is characterized by its evergreen and deciduous trees, providing a habitat for various wildlife species such as black bears, white-tailed deer, and various bird species. Historically, the region was used by Native Americans and later by European settlers for hunting and forestry. Today, Courthouse Falls serves as a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, with hiking being the primary activity. The falls themselves drop about 45 feet into a clear pool below, attracting visitors for both its visual appeal and as a spot for a refreshing dip. The serenity offered by the surrounding forest and the sound of cascading water makes it an ideal location for photography and nature observation.
