Knuckles Conservation Forest is located in central Sri Lanka, part of the districts of Matale and Kandy. This remarkable area is renowned for its rugged mountain ranges, shrouded in mist and rich in biodiversity. The forest is named for its resemblance to a set of knuckles, with five prominent peaks that dominate the skyline. The Knuckles Range supports a diverse array of flora and fauna, including over 1,000 species of flowering plants and a variety of endemic wildlife, such as the Knuckles Rock Frog and the Sri Lankan Leopard. The area's unique environment has earned it the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors are drawn to the awe-inspiring landscapes, challenging hikes, and the opportunity to engage with vibrant local cultures. Notably, the forest is also home to isolated villages where traditional farming and cultural practices continue to thrive. Key landmarks include the picturesque Mini World's End, stunning river valleys, and waterfalls. The conservation efforts here are supported by its designation as a protective area, focusing on maintaining its ecological integrity.
