Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Established in 1993, Central Karakoram National Park is situated in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. It encompasses some of the mightiest peaks of the Karakoram range, including the renowned K2, the second-highest mountain on Earth. The park is a haven for mountaineers and trekkers, offering a challenging and rewarding landscape. This protected area is home to a variety of ecosystems, from arid plateaus to lush alpine meadows. It supports a range of wildlife, including snow leopards, Himalayan ibex, and lammergeiers. The park also preserves areas of historical significance, such as ancient trade routes and petroglyphs.
