Gishwati-Mukura National Park, established in 2015, is located in the western region of Rwanda and comprises two previously separate forest blocks: Gishwati Forest and Mukura Forest. Together, these forests form one of Rwanda’s largest remaining montane rainforest fragments. The park covers a diverse range of montane and lowland forests, swamps, and volcanic hills. It provides vital habitat for endangered species such as the eastern chimpanzee and golden monkeys, along with many endemic bird species and unique plant life.
