Hornopirén National Park

Hornopirén National Park is situated in the Los Lagos Region of southern Chile within the Andes mountain range, encompassing spectacular landscapes of dense Valdivian temperate rainforests, volcanic peaks, and rugged fjords. The park is named after the nearby town of Hornopirén and is centered around the imposing horn-shaped volcano, Volcán Hornopirén, which last erupted in 1991. The park’s geography features a combination of steep mountainous terrain, several glacial lakes, rivers, and dense old-growth forests dominated by coigüe, alerce, and lenga trees. Rich biodiversity thrives here, including endangered species like the kodkod cat and the Chilean pudú, the world's smallest deer.
