Kainji Lake National Park spans over 5,341 square miles and is located in the Niger and Kwara states of Nigeria. It was established in 1976 largely to preserve the region's distinctive ecological dynamics, focusing on a variety of habitats that range from savannah woodlands and lush forests to the rich watery environs of Kainji Lake itself. The park serves as a critical haven for wildlife, home to species such as baboons, antelopes, hippopotamuses, and even the occasional lion. The park is divided into three sectors: the Borgu and Zugurma Game Reserves and the portion of Kainji Lake proper.
