Liuwa Plain National Park spans across the floodplains of the Upper Zambezi floodplains in western Zambia. This remote park is renowned for hosting the second largest wildebeest migration in Africa, offering extraordinary wildlife viewing experiences. Besides the wildebeest, there are zebra, tsessebe, and a variety of predators including lions and hyenas. The park is rich in birdlife with over 300 species, and the presence of migratory birds is notable. Historically, Liuwa has been protected since the late 19th century by the Lozi people, who saw the value in conserving their environment. The region provides a mix of open grassy plains, seasonal pans, and woodland areas, creating a unique ecosystem. Though its remote location makes it a lesser-visited park, those who venture here are rewarded with unspoiled landscapes and a rare sense of exclusivity.
