Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Nech Sar National Park, established in 1974, covers an impressive 188,000 acres in Ethiopia's Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region. The park's landscape features a compelling mix of grassland savannas, mountainous terrains, and dense riverine forests. It is home to a broad spectrum of wildlife, including zebra herds, gazelles, crocodiles in Lake Chamo, and a diverse bird population, making it a prime destination for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers. Historically, the park was established to preserve the unique ecological systems and to protect the endangered species that inhabit the area. Trekking through the park offers views of the striking Amaro Mountains and two Rift Valley lakes, Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo, providing opportunities for boating and fishing. As a remote and beautiful area, Nech Sar draws visitors for the chance to experience Ethiopia’s raw natural beauty and indigenous cultures.
