Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Pico Bonito National Park, located on the northern coast of Honduras, is one of the country's largest national parks, encompassing over 400,000 acres of diverse ecosystems ranging from lush rainforests to rugged mountains. Dominated by the towering Pico Bonito, which reaches elevations of about 7,989 feet, the park is a vital site for biodiversity, home to jaguars, endangered species like the great green macaw, and countless other fauna. Established in 1987, it has since been a focal point of conservation efforts largely due to its rich wildlife and pristine natural beauty. Visitors are attracted to the park by its myriad of recreation opportunities including hiking through dense forest trails, bird watching, and exploring its myriad waterfalls and rivers. The park also plays a significant role in the cultural and economic aspects of nearby communities.
