About Shahdag National Park

Shahdag National Park is Azerbaijan's largest national park, boasting stunning alpine landscapes, diverse wildlife, and a variety of outdoor adventures including hiking, wildlife observation, and winter sports.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Established in 2006, Shahdag National Park is located in the northeastern Greater Caucasus Mountains of Azerbaijan and encompasses an area characterized by rugged peaks, deep canyons, alpine meadows, and dense forests. The park is renowned for its rich biodiversity, including endemic and endangered species such as the East Caucasian tur, bezoar goat, lynx, brown bear, and Caucasian leopard. It serves as a crucial conservation area to protect these species and their natural habitat. Geographically, the park stretches over mountainous terrain with elevations ranging from approximately 900 meters to over 4,466 meters at Mount Bazardüzü, Azerbaijan's highest peak near the park's boundary. Visitors to Shahdag National Park can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities throughout the year. In warmer months, hiking and trekking trails lead through pristine wilderness, traditional mountain villages, and panoramic vistas. Birdwatching and wildlife viewing opportunities abound with the park's rich fauna. Winter transforms Shahdag into a popular resort area for skiing and snowboarding, bolstered by modern facilities in the Shahdag Mountain Resort. The mix of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and well-developed infrastructure make the park a prime destination for nature lovers, adventure travelers, and families alike. Shahdag's landscapes also include notable landmarks such as Tufandag mountain peaks, the Qaraçay River Valley, and traditional Azerbaijani alpine settlements, offering visitors a comprehensive experience of the Caucasus' rugged charm and cultural legacy.
