Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Ajloun Forest Reserve, established in 1987, covers a significant expanse of hilly terrain in Northern Jordan. This reserve is renowned for its thriving evergreen forests interspersed with oak, carob, and pistachio trees. The area's rich biodiversity includes a variety of mammals such as the roe deer, which was reintroduced after extinction from the area, foxes, jackals, and a plethora of bird species. The landscape offers an idyllic setting for hiking and bird watching. Historically, the reserve lies in proximity to the Ajloun Castle, a 12th-century fortress, providing a contextual backdrop of the area’s historical significance. The reserve's conservation efforts focus on the sustainable management of natural resources and the promotion of ecotourism. With its diverse ecosystems and well-maintained trails, Ajloun Forest Reserve attracts both nature lovers and those interested in cultural history.
