Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Bandingilo National Park, located in the southern region of South Sudan, covers approximately 3,900 square kilometers. It lies in the Equatoria biome, characterized by its savanna and woodland ecosystems. The park is distinguished by its rich biodiversity, hosting one of the most significant antelope migrations, only surpassed by the Serengeti. This migration draws thousands of tiang, reedbuck, and kob antelopes, making it a prime location for wildlife enthusiasts. Additionally, the park provides habitat to numerous bird species, including the Abyssinian ground hornbill and the marabou stork. Historically, Bandingilo has been integral to local communities that engage in sustainable hunting and gathering. Although tourism infrastructure is still developing, the park offers unique opportunities for safaris and bird watching. The remoteness and vast wilderness appeal to those seeking less-traveled paths and authentic wildlife experiences.
