Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Clear Fork Gorge, located in north-central Ohio, is part of the larger Mohican State Park and Forest system. Carved by the Clear Fork of the Mohican River, the gorge stretches for about one mile and reaches depths of up to 300 feet. Its towering hemlock and mixed hardwood forests support a rich diversity of plant and animal life, including some rare and protected species. Historcially, the gorge was shaped by glacial retreat during the last Ice Age, leaving behind spectacular geological formations. Today, visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities like hiking along the gorge's rim, fishing in the river, and exploring the many trails that wind through the forested terrain. Clear Fork Gorge serves as an important conservation area as well as a prime destination for nature lovers and those seeking quiet reflection in a picturesque setting.
