Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Located in the rugged terrain of eastern Kentucky's Appalachian region, the Daniel Boone Wildlife Management Area (WMA) covers approximately 44,000 acres of mixed hardwood forests, rolling hills, and steep ridges. The area is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to conserve diverse wildlife populations, including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, black bears, and numerous songbirds. Named after the famous American pioneer Daniel Boone, who explored the region in the late 18th century, the WMA preserves a mix of natural habitats, including mature oak-hickory forests, rhododendron thickets, and riparian zones along its streams.
