Eagle River Nature Preserve encompasses approximately 1,600 acres of wetlands, forests, and waterways in Vilas County, northern Wisconsin. The preserve protects a complex of freshwater wetlands, pristine hardwood forests, and the headwaters of the Eagle River, known for its clear, cold waters. The preserve plays a critical role in maintaining water quality and habitat for a variety of wildlife, including migratory birds, waterfowl, amphibians, and rare plant species. Historically, the area was used by Native American communities and later by early European settlers for fishing and trapping.
