Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

The Fife Coast and Countryside Trust (FCCT) is a Scottish charity dedicated to protecting and enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of the Fife coastline and countryside. Spanning over 500 hectares, the Trust manages a variety of distinctive coastal habitats, woodlands, meadows, and wetlands along a stretch of approximately 217 kilometers (135 miles) of coastline. Stretching from Kincardine in the west to Tayport in the east, the area encompasses sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, estuaries, and historic harbor towns. Ecologically, the region supports a wide range of flora and fauna, including rare wildflowers, seabirds such as oystercatchers and curlews, and marine species inhabiting the Firth of Forth and Firth of Tay. The Trust focuses on sustainable visitor engagement through a network of well-maintained footpaths, bird hides, and interpretation centers. Popular outdoor activities include coastal walks, mountain biking, and wildlife watching, particularly during migratory seasons for birdlife. Several notable landmarks within the Trust's remit include the Tentsmuir Forest, a renowned habitat for nesting birds and seals; the historic fishing village of Anstruther; and the St Andrews Bay coastline, famous for its sand dunes and golf heritage. Education and community involvement are central to the Trust’s mission, offering guided walks, volunteering opportunities, and conservation projects. Visitors can experience both tranquil natural settings and vibrant coastal communities, making it an appealing destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
