Floracliff Nature Sanctuary is a 287-acre preserve located in the Inner Bluegrass region of central Kentucky, just southeast of Lexington. The sanctuary is situated along the Kentucky River palisades, offering breathtaking views and unique geological formations. Established to protect the area's rich ecological diversity, Floracliff is home to over 800 species of plants, including rare and endangered species such as running buffalo clover and the purple fringeless orchid. The sanctuary's rich birdlife also attracts birdwatchers hoping to spot species such as the pileated woodpecker and prothonotary warbler. The area's history is preserved through remnants of old-growth forests and historic stone fences, indicating past agricultural practices.
