Green Cay Nature Center & Wetlands spans approximately 100 acres in Boynton Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida. This ecological preserve was developed to showcase the unique flora and fauna of South Florida's wetland ecosystems while providing educational programs and recreational opportunities. The site features a half-mile elevated boardwalk meandering through constructed wetlands, freshwater marshes, and surrounding tropical habitats. Visitors can observe a wide variety of wildlife, including wading birds like herons and egrets, turtles, frogs, and the native Florida softshell turtle, along with numerous butterfly species and other insects. The area is especially noted for birdwatching, attracting species such as the purple gallinule and various migratory songbirds. Established in 1995 by Palm Beach County, Green Cay serves both conservation and educational purposes, with its nature center offering interpretive exhibits and guided walks. The flat, wheelchair-accessible boardwalk allows close-up views of vibrant wetland plants, including cattails, sedges, and water lilies, making it ideal for both casual visitors and avid naturalists.
