Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Huron-Clinton Metroparks is a network of 13 regional parks stretching across five counties in southeastern Michigan, covering over 25,000 acres of protected lands combined. The system spans from Livingston County in the north to Monroe County in the south, and from Washtenaw County in the west to Wayne County in the east. The parks feature a variety of landscapes including rolling hills, wetlands, lakes, beaches, and woodlands. Established in 1940, this extensive park system was designed to provide accessible outdoor recreation and natural resource conservation for the growing metropolitan Detroit area. The parks protect a diverse range of ecosystems, including oak-hickory forests, marshes, rivers, and sand dunes, supporting abundant wildlife such as white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, waterfowl, and numerous songbirds. Visitors can engage in hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing, boating, skiing, and golf, with many parks offering swimming beaches and picnic facilities.
