The Indian River Lagoon is a vital estuarine ecosystem stretching 156 miles along Florida's east coast. This biologically rich area supports over 4,000 species of plants and animals, some of which are endangered or threatened. Its waters connect to seagrass beds, mangrove forests, and salt marshes, creating a sanctuary for diverse marine life, including manatees, dolphins, and a variety of fish species. Historically, this area has been home to Native American tribes, such as the Ais.
