About Jiuzhaigou National Park

Jiuzhaigou National Park is a stunning natural reserve in Sichuan, China, known for its vibrant turquoise lakes, multi-tiered waterfalls, and lush forests.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Jiuzhaigou National Park, part of the Min Mountains, is located in the northern Sichuan Province of China. It covers over 188,000 acres and ranges in altitude from 6,600 feet to nearly 15,000 feet. The park is celebrated for its breathtaking water features, including over one hundred turquoise, green, blue, and purple-hued lakes, which are caused by mineral deposits and algae. Dense forests carpet the landscape, providing a habitat for diverse wildlife, including the endangered giant panda and the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey. The park's valleys—Rize, Zechawa, and Shuzheng—each offer unique natural formations and are the primary areas accessible by visitors. The park is comparatively new in its modern conservation status, having been established as a nature reserve and national park in the latter half of the 20th century, and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. Its growing popularity is met with ongoing conservation efforts to protect the fragile ecosystem while accommodating tourism.
