Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Established in 1983, Kaszubskie Landscape Park (Kaszubski Park Krajobrazowy) spans nearly 332 square kilometers in the Pomeranian Voivodeship of northern Poland. This Landscape Park encompasses part of the cultural-geographical region of Kashubia, famous for its unique ethnic heritage and language. The park's terrain features undulating moraine hills, dense mixed forests, and numerous glacial lakes such as Łebsko and Raduńskie. These lakes, combined with peat bogs and rivers, create a mosaic of habitats supporting a wide variety of flora and fauna.
Ecologically, the park hosts species like white-tailed eagles, beavers, otters, and rare orchids, with efforts focused on preserving these habitats and biodiversity. The area’s traditional Kashubian villages add a historical and cultural dimension, showcasing wooden architecture and vibrant folk traditions.
Recreational opportunities abound with over 200 kilometers of well-marked hiking and biking trails, canoe routes across the lakes and rivers, and excellent birdwatching sites. Visitors can explore nature reserves within the park, such as the Radunia River nature reserve, or discover archaeological sites tied to Kashubian culture. The gently hilly landscape and relatively low development make it popular for family outings, longer backpacking treks, and seasonal activities like cross-country skiing in winter.
Kaszubskie Landscape Park appeals to those seeking a blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and outdoor activities in a tranquil setting far from crowded urban centers.
