Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Lake Metroparks is a regional park district serving Lake County, Ohio, known for its wide range of natural areas, recreational facilities, and trails. The park system covers over 9,000 acres of protected land comprised of wetlands, woodlands, prairies, and shoreline habitats along the southern shore of Lake Erie, providing important ecosystems for a variety of plants and wildlife. The park district was established in 1958 and has since developed multiple parks, preserves, and nature centers, including notable sites like Penitentiary Glen Reservation and Chapin Forest Reservation.
