Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Located in Sevier County in southwestern Arkansas, Little River Public Fishing Area encompasses approximately 1,280 acres of protected bottomland forests, oxbow lakes, and river channels along the Little River. The area provides essential habitat for a variety of fish species such as largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and bream, making it a popular destination for anglers. The diverse wetlands and hardwood forests are home to numerous bird species, including waterfowl, wading birds, and songbirds, attracting birdwatchers and nature photographers. The landscape features gently rolling terrain with forested riverbanks, oxbow depressions, and open water, offering scenic views and tranquil natural settings. Native hardwood species like oak, gum, and cypress dominate the forest canopy. Several walking trails and boardwalks allow visitors to explore the waterways and observe wildlife up close. Historically, the area has been managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to maintain the quality of fish habitats and public access. Recreation opportunities go beyond fishing, with hiking, wildlife observation, and boating readily available. The Public Fishing Area is accessible year-round, providing peaceful scenic escape in all seasons. The combination of fish-rich waters, varied wildlife, and natural beauty makes Little River PFA an appealing destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a quieter, less developed environment focused on aquatic and wetland recreation.
