About Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park

Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park offers a rich tropical forest experience with rugged hills, diverse wildlife, and coastal views, making it a popular destination for hiking, wildlife watching, and waterfall exploration.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park is located on the west coast of southern Thailand in Phang Nga Province, covering a mountainous and forested area that extends roughly 60 kilometers along the Andaman Sea coastline. The park spans a range of hills including the prominent Khao Lak and Lam Ru mountain massifs, with peaks rising to about 1,127 meters. It features dense evergreen and deciduous forests, mangroves along the coast, and several freshwater streams and waterfalls. The park’s terrain varies from steep slopes to gentle valleys, creating habitat for a wide range of plant and animal species such as barking deer, wild boar, hornbills, and various primates. Visitors are drawn to the many waterfalls like Ton Chong Fa and Lam Ru Waterfall, which offer refreshing spots for day hikes. The park also provides panoramic viewpoints overlooking the ocean and nearby islands. Historically, the area was designated a national park in 1991 to protect its natural beauty and biodiversity. Along with hiking trails, the park supports birdwatching and nature photography, while its proximity to the famous Khao Lak beach region makes it accessible for tourists seeking an outdoor break from the coast. The tropical climate encourages lush vegetation, but heavy rainfall during the monsoon can make trails slippery and less accessible. Overall, Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park presents an opportunity to experience southern Thailand’s coastal rainforests and foothills in one protected area.
