Parc National du Mercantour is situated in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, bordering Italy. Encompassing approximately 68,000 hectares, the park is renowned for its unique blend of Mediterranean and alpine ecosystems. It encompasses a spectacular range of landscapes, from lush valleys to rugged peaks, with elevations ranging between 490 to 3,143 meters at the summit of Cime du Gélas. The park supports a wide variety of fauna such as ibexes, chamois, and wolves, and its flora includes over 2,000 plant species, some endemic to the region. Established in 1979, Mercantour offers a rich historical tapestry with ancient rock carvings in the Vallée des Merveilles and remnants of military forts.
