Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Located in the southwestern part of Virginia, Pine Creek Wildlife Management Area encompasses approximately 16,000 acres of forested hills, open meadows, and riparian corridors. The area's geography includes steep ridges and valleys that support a variety of ecosystems, from mixed hardwood forests to grasslands along the creek. Pine Creek WMA is managed primarily to provide habitat for game species such as white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and various small game birds, as well as to conserve native wildlife populations. Historically, the land was used for timber and agriculture before being designated for wildlife conservation, reflecting a shift toward sustainable land management in the region. Visitors can explore numerous unpaved roads and footpaths ideal for hiking and wildlife photography, while also enjoying seasonal hunting opportunities. The creek itself supports populations of bass and other game fish, providing limited but valuable fishing prospects. Pine Creek WMA appeals to hunters, birdwatchers, and outdoor adventurers who seek a quiet, less developed natural area with abundant wildlife presence and scenic woodland landscapes. The area is known for its peaceful setting, undisturbed environment, and diverse species of flora and fauna, contributing to its appeal as a refuge for nature enthusiasts.
