Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Poring Hot Springs Nature Reserve is located in the lowland rainforests of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, within the larger Kinabalu Park vicinity. The reserve lies along the Kinabatangan River basin and is situated approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Kota Kinabalu city. It is internationally recognized for its natural sulfur hot springs, which have been utilized by locals and visitors for centuries due to their reputed healing properties. The surrounding tropical rainforest supports a rich biodiversity including many species of tropical plants, orchids, ferns, and numerous wildlife such as orangutans, hornbills, and various reptiles. Visitors can access a network of jungle trails that range from short easy walks to more challenging treks, showcasing exotic flora and fauna along the way. The reserve features several attractions such as the Canopy Walkway—a suspension bridge system 30 meters above the forest floor offering panoramic views of the rainforest canopy—and natural hot bathing pools. Besides soaking in the warm mineral waters, visitors can engage in guided jungle walks, bird watching, and explore nearby caves.
