Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Located in the Rhodope Mountains of southern Bulgaria, Rodopi Nature Park spans over 1,160 square kilometers and is the largest nature park in the country. The park features a variety of ecosystems including dense beech and fir forests, alpine meadows, rivers, caves, and cliffs. Its rich biodiversity supports rare wildlife such as the Balkan chamois, brown bears, wolves, and the elusive Eastern Imperial Eagle. The area is also culturally significant, with evidence of Thracian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman influences visible through archaeological sites, stone bridges, and traditional villages. Rodopi Nature Park offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking on marked trails, mountain biking, birdwatching, fishing, and exploring caves. Popular landmarks include the Trigrad Gorge, Devil's Throat Cave, and Yagodina Cave, all notable for their geological features and stunning scenery. Visitors can experience authentic local culture in mountain villages featuring traditional architecture and folk crafts. The park's elevation ranges from 200 to nearly 2200 meters, providing diverse climates and habitats. With its mix of natural beauty and cultural heritage, Rodopi Nature Park attracts both nature enthusiasts and history buffs throughout the year.
