Scotts Run Nature Preserve is a unique slice of natural beauty located in McLean, Virginia, approximately 15 miles from Washington, D.C. The preserve spans across wooded areas and features striking topography that leads to scenic views of the Potomac River. The 336-acre preserve is home to diverse ecosystems, from rocky hillsides and meandering streams to vibrant wildflower fields. Historically, it was part of a large tract owned by entrepreneur Edward B. Burling in the early 20th century before being passed to the Fairfax County Park Authority to preserve its natural state. Recreational opportunities abound, with several trails catering to casual strollers and adventurous hikers. Scotts Run Waterfall is a particularly popular attraction, attracting those eager for a picturesque spot to relax. Many visit Scotts Run not only for recreation but also for bird watching and the chance to encounter local wildlife, including deer and a variety of bird species.
