This nature reserve protects some of Ireland's most rugged quartzite peaks, with a landscape characterized by steep escarpments, rocky tors, glacial corries, and clear oligotrophic lakes. The geology and topography were shaped largely by glaciations during the Ice Age, creating dramatic cliffs and valleys that support a rich diversity of flora and fauna.
