Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Uvac Special Nature Reserve is located in southwestern Serbia and encompasses approximately 30 square miles of rugged terrain and karst landscapes. The reserve is a sanctuary for the griffon vulture, a species that was once nearing extinction in this area but is now regaining numbers thanks to conservation efforts. The reserve's mix of lush forests and dramatic cliffs creates a compelling habitat for a variety of flora and fauna. Visitors are attracted to the reserve for its dramatic Uvac River meanders, best viewed from high vantage points. Outdoor enthusiasts can partake in activities such as hiking the challenging trails or kayaking along the river to experience its beauty up close. Historical remains, like ancient cave dwellings, add another dimension to the reserve's history, providing a window into its distant past.
