Monumento Natural Salar de Surire is a protected natural area situated in the high Andes of northern Chile. The salt flat sits at an elevation of over 4,200 meters, offering stunning vistas of mountains, volcanoes, and expansive white salt crusts. This remote and arid landscape is home to a rich diversity of wildlife, including three species of flamingos, vicuñas, and Andean foxes. Established in 1983, the monument covers an area of 11,298 hectares and is part of the Lauca Biosphere Reserve. Visitors come to marvel at the unique ecosystem, enjoy peaceful walks amidst the salt flats, and capture stunning photographs of the surreal landscapes. The area's geothermal activity is visible in the form of hot springs, which are inviting spots for visitors to relax and enjoy the natural beauty. Salar de Surire's remote location makes it less accessible, preserving its pristine environment and offering a sense of solitude.
