The Sarykum Sand Dunes Nature Reserve, located near the Caspian Sea coast in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia, is home to the largest sand dune outside of Africa and Asia’s largest shifting sand dune, reaching heights of up to 262 meters (860 feet). Spanning roughly 1,170 hectares (2,893 acres), this reserve lies in a semi-desert zone characterized by sandy plains and sparse vegetation.
