Sabino Canyon Recreation Area, part of the Coronado National Forest, is one of the premier destinations in southern Arizona for experiencing the beauty and biodiversity of the Sonoran Desert. Located just northeast of Tucson, it showcases dramatic canyons, riparian ecosystems, and saguaro-studded hillsides. This recreation area has a storied past, with area's development for public enjoyment beginning in the 1930s. The canyon is carved by Sabino Creek, which flows seasonally and supports a variety of wildlife, including javelinas, coyotes, and numerous bird species. Sabino Canyon is a haven for hiking enthusiasts, offering multiple trails that range from leisurely strolls to challenging hikes. The area is also known for its tram service that provides narrated tours along Sabino Canyon's main road, offering easy access to scenic viewpoints and giving visitors insights into the area's natural and cultural history.
