About Sandy Ridge Park

Sandy Ridge Park is a premier mountain biking destination offering extensive trail systems and scenic woodland terrain just east of Portland, Oregon.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Sandy Ridge Park is a 630-acre dedicated mountain biking facility located near the city of Sandy in Clackamas County, Oregon. Situated within the Mount Hood National Forest boundary, the park features a network of over 15 miles of purpose-built singletrack and multi-use trails designed primarily for mountain biking enthusiasts of all skill levels. The park's landscape is characterized by mixed conifer forests with Douglas fir, western red cedar, and hemlock, combined with dense understory vegetation that provides both shade and natural beauty. Developed by the Northwest Trail Alliance in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, Sandy Ridge opened in 2008 and quickly became one of the Pacific Northwest’s most popular trailheads for cycling. The terrain includes a mix of technical sections, fast-flowing downhill runs, and rolling singletrack that cater to beginners and advanced riders alike. Beyond biking, the park is used for trail running and occasional hiking outings, though it emphasizes the biking experience. Sandy Ridge also provides amenities such as a staging area with parking, picnic sites, restrooms, and bike wash stations. The park’s proximity to Portland makes it highly accessible for day trips, drawing visitors who want intense outdoor exercise and forest immersion without traveling far from the metro area. Events and group rides are common throughout the year, contributing to its vibrant outdoor community. Conservation of the natural environment and sustainable trail practices are a core focus to maintain ecological health and user safety. The park’s diversity of trails combined with its forested setting offers a unique and rewarding outdoor recreation venue.
