Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Taejongdae Resort Park is a coastal park located on the southernmost tip of Yeongdo Island in Busan, South Korea. Named after King Taejong Muyeol of the ancient Silla Kingdom, who is said to have appreciated the area's natural beauty, it has become one of Busan's most popular sightseeing spots. The park features dramatic ocean cliffs, dense evergreen forests, and panoramic views of the East Sea, including glimpses of the nearby Oryukdo Islands and Busan Harbor. The rugged shoreline presents sheer rock formations shaped by centuries of sea erosion, providing a spectacular setting for photography and nature walks.
Ecologically, the park hosts a mix of pine and deciduous trees, supporting various bird species and marine wildlife in the adjacent waters. Taejongdae is well suited for day hikes, with multiple paved and natural trails that wind past viewpoints, Buddhist temples, and several observation decks. Popular activities include hiking, cycling, visiting its famous lighthouse, and riding the Taejongdae Danubi Train, which takes visitors around the park's highlights.
Visitors are drawn to Taejongdae not only for its natural appeal but also for attractions like the Taejongdae Observatory, which offers expansive ocean vistas, and the Yeongdo Lighthouse, an iconic symbol of the area. The park is accessible year-round, with the best visits typically during spring and autumn when the weather is mild and the natural scenery at its peak. Its combination of rugged coastline, cultural landmarks, and recreational amenities makes Taejongdae a beloved destination for both locals and tourists.
