The forest features rolling hills, mixed hardwood and pine stands, and access to the Blue River, a popular destination for canoeing and fishing. Established in 1932, the forest has a rich history linked to early conservation efforts, including reforestation and erosion control projects. The forest’s ecosystem supports various wildlife species such as white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and numerous songbirds, making it a favored spot for wildlife watchers.
