Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Buccaneer State Park is located in Waveland, Mississippi, along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Established in 1960, the park covers over 400 acres of coastal terrain featuring sandy beaches, maritime forest, and wetland areas. The park was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina but has since been rebuilt with improved amenities. Visitors can enjoy a broad range of activities such as swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, and picnicking. The park’s network of nature trails meanders through forested areas and provides wildlife viewing opportunities, especially for coastal birds and small mammals. Buccaneer State Park is also known for its family-friendly campground that offers both tent and RV sites, complete with bathhouses and playgrounds. In addition to outdoor recreation, the park features a large water playground for kids, a golf course, and picnic pavilions that make it a popular destination for day trips and group outings. Its location on the Gulf Coast provides beautiful waterfront views and access to beachcombing along sandy shores. Buccaneer State Park balances natural coastal beauty with well-developed recreational infrastructure, appealing to visitors seeking a combination of relaxation and activity by the sea.
