Encompassing approximately 13,600 surface acres of water and 4,500 acres of surrounding forested parkland, the area provides a diverse outdoor recreation experience. The region features a mix of pine and hardwood trees and supports abundant wildlife, including white-tailed deer, turkey, and a variety of fish species. The lake is renowned as a premier fishing destination, stocked with largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and sunfish. Visitors can enjoy extensive boating opportunities with multiple boat ramps and marinas. The park includes several campgrounds with amenities ranging from primitive to developed campsites, hiking and biking trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds. The park’s history relates to the Corps of Engineers’ construction of Hugo Dam in the 1970s, which was part of regional flood control and water management efforts.
