Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Jericho Mountain State Park, located in the western foothills of Maine near Berlin and Gorham, covers an area of largely undeveloped forest land characterized by rolling hills, wetlands, and mixed hardwood and conifer forests. The park was established primarily as a motorized recreation destination and features more than 50 miles of maintained trails designed for all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), dirt bikes, and snowmobiles, making it one of the top OHV parks in New England. In addition to motorized recreation, the park offers hiking and mountain biking on designated non-motorized trails. The diverse habitats support wildlife such as white-tailed deer, black bear, various bird species, and amphibians. Jericho Mountain’s natural terrain includes streams, small ponds, and wetlands that provide scenic variety throughout the trail systems. Visitors also enjoy camping opportunities with a large campground area and dispersed sites. Established in 2005, Jericho Mountain State Park was developed with an emphasis on sustainable trail design and balancing recreation with conservation. The park hosts events including ATV races and snowmobile club gatherings, contributing to a strong local recreational culture. Its close proximity to nearby towns and the New Hampshire border draws visitors year-round for a wide range of outdoor activities including snow sports during winter and trail riding in warmer months.
