Located in New Jersey, Kittatinny Valley State Park spans a rich, varied landscape including the picturesque glacial Lake Aeroflex and Lake Wawayanda. The park is part of the New Jersey Highlands and offers a range of activities set against a backdrop of wooded hills and serene waters. The area was historically significant for its iron mining and still features remnants of 19th-century industrial operations, including historic lime kilns and mining sites. Outdoor recreation opportunities abound with an extensive trail network for hiking and biking, as well as several lakes ideal for boating and fishing. Visitors can also enjoy bird watching as the park is known for its diverse bird species. The previous presence of the Sussex Branch Railway and the ongoing conversion into a rail trail reflects the area's long-standing role in New Jersey's transportation history.
