The park covers 492 acres of forested land along the shores of this 37,879-acre reservoir, which was created in the 1960s as a water supply reservoir for the region. The area is characterized by rolling hills, mixed hardwood and pine forest, and open water, supporting diverse wildlife including deer, raccoons, foxes, and numerous bird species such as great blue herons and bald eagles. The park offers a variety of recreational activities including fishing—known for largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie—boating, hiking, mountain biking, birdwatching, and camping. Visitors can explore over 10 miles of trails that wind through woodlands and along the lake shore, providing scenic views and wildlife observation opportunities. The park also features several well-equipped camping areas with both primitive and developed sites, picnic areas, a boat ramp, and a beach for swimming.
