Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Morrow Mountain State Park, located in the Uwharrie Mountain range in central North Carolina, encompasses 4,496 acres of diverse landscapes ranging from forested woodlands to rolling highlands. The park is named for one of its prominent peaks, Morrow Mountain, which rises to an elevation of 936 feet. This park is a haven for those interested in both the natural and cultural history of the region. Historically, the area was inhabited by Native American tribes, and evidence of early human activity is found in the form of a quarry used for tool-making. The park is home to 15 miles of hiking trails that offer picturesque views of the surrounding lakes and mountaintops. Visitors can also enjoy fishing, boating, and paddling on Lake Tillery. The onsite Kron House, a restored 19th-century homestead, provides a glimpse into the lives of early settlers. Morrow Mountain is a popular spot for camping and picnicking, offering a well-rounded outdoor experience for families.
